Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu holds a Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from Johns Hopkins University Teaching Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland; a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in Economics and Finance from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania; a Master of Science in Transportation Engineering, specializing in Management & Planning from Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland. He began his Ph.D. program in Energy Management and Policy Analysis at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in 1986. After many years of family setbacks, he went to Argosy University, Phoenix Arizona, where he successfully completed the entire course work, and passed the Comprehensive Examination on August 30, 2014. Finally, he successfully defended his Doctoral Dissertation on December 7, 2015.
Professionally, Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu worked as an accounting officer at the Leventis Motors, Limited, Kaduna Nigeria; Secretary to the General Manager of Northern Nigeria Textile Mills, Kaduna Nigeria prior to leaving for the United States on January 2, 1980. While in the States, he worked as Fiscal Assistant to the Comptroller of Finance and Research Assistant at the Center for Transportation Studies, Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland. He held several managerial positions. Currently, he works with the Knights of Columbus Insurance and Financial Investment Department as Field Agent/Benefits Manager.
A Community leader and organizer of long standing, Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu was one of the founders of Mbaise Development Union, Kaduna Nigeria where he served as Secretary and Financial Secretary from 1975 to 1979. His zeal for community service followed him to the United States where he served as Secretary, Nigeria Students’ Union, Lincoln University, Pennsylvania; President of Okwuato Development Union, (ODU) Baltimore/Washington D.C. Metro; Secretary, Vice President and President, Mbaise Association of Maryland (MAM). During his term as President of MAM, the organization experienced a dramatic growth in funds and membership in the history of the Chapter. Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu served as Treasurer and Vice Chairman of the American Federation of Mbaise Association (AFOMA), an umbrella association of all Mbaise organizations in the United States. Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu is the Patron/founder Igbo Council of Traditional Title Holders, USA (ICOTTHUSA), an authentic and prestigious Igbo traditional title holders’ organization that is poised to sanitize the chieftaincy institution, and ensure strict adherence to Igbo culture and tradition in the Diaspora.
As a social activist, and philanthropist, Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu received citations from the former Maryland State Governor, Martin O’Malley; the Mayor of Baltimore City, Mrs. Sheila Dickson; and the U.S. Senator for Maryland, Hon. Ben Cardin. He has received several awards and named in “Who’s Who” among students in America.
Religiously, he is a Past Grand Knight of the Knight of Columbus. As a result of his hard work and dedication to the Catholic faith, Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu was hired by the Insurance Department of the Knights of Columbus, New Haven, Connecticut as a Field Agent/Benefits Manager for St. Matthew International Council Baltimore, Maryland on August 2, 2013. On November 2013, that is three months after he was employed, he bagged the Supreme Knight’s Early Achievement Award during his training and was bestowed with Honoree Award by the Baltimore Chapter of Grand Knights in recognition of his dedicated service to the Order, and significant contribution to the progress and growth of St. Matthews international council No. 11787.
Dr. (Chief) Nwachukwu earned three chieftaincy titles: from Uvuru by the late His Royal Highness, Eze Rueben Mbalewe (then chairman Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers), and from his home town Umuhu by His Royal Highness Eze Alex I. Ike. Subsequently, on December 26, 2014 he was bestowed with a third chieftaincy title by HRH Engr/Dr. Anthony N. Elugwara, Agwa 1 of Lagwa Okwuato Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State for outstanding commitment to peace, and progress in the community.
